Monthly Meeting Recap – 8/21/11
Robot Show & Tell:
- Peter Campbell brought in a treadmill control board that he scavenged which featured an interesting resistive membrane button panel.
- Dan Toborowski brought an Arduino fan speed phototach he’s building that uses a photo switch to measure the speed of a radiator fan.
- Mike Dvorsky brought his mini-sumo bot that he’s working on for the iHobby Chibotica event in October. Mike also brought a set of Pololu treads that he plans to incorporate in a sumo robot as well.
- Matt talked about an exciting project he’s working on for the New York Maker Fair that will combine 3D printer technology and Rice Krispies treats.
Announcements/Upcoming Events:
- EVENT RECAP: ChiBots RoboMagellan Competition – August 6th, 2011
- CIRC was unable to complete the course but many of the robot’s subsystems performed significantly better than previous years. Pictures from the event have been posted on the club’s Facebook page and will be uploaded to the website along with video in the coming weeks.
- ORC House of Robotic Destruction 2011 – Saturday, September 17th
- 1lb & 3lb Combat Robots
- Classic RC Raceways in Akron, OH
- iHobby Expo – October 22nd, 23rd
- Mecha-Mayhem 2011 (150gram, 1lb, 3lb, & 6lb combat robots)
- ChiBots Chibotica (line follow, sumo, humanoid)
- 2011 Boy Scout Jamboree – September 10th
- Held at University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana (approx. 1 hour 45 mins from Peoria)
- Demonstrations scheduled for 2:30PM-6:00PM
- CIRC will be provided an outdoor location with no electricity
- Club volunteers needed to bring robots and man the display
